MSCHE Standard 10: Faculty

The institution’s instructional, research, and service programs are devised, developed, monitored, and supported by qualified professionals.

Analysis of Evidences

In his role as Dean of the Faculty, the Vice President for Academic Affairs works through the Academic Council to facilitate the learning process and to promote research and scholarship. Each Department Chair reviews Faculty portfolios which evidence accomplishments in instructional improvement, scholarship, spiritual formation, institutional service, and student interaction. A growth plan is developed each year and reviewed. Each faculty member, full-time, part-time, and adjunct, is required to have one course evaluated by students each semester. Department Chairs are responsible for ensuring that a variety of courses are evaluated by each faculty member over a period of time.

A thorough analysis of the results of course and faculty evaluations can be found in the Evidences below. These analyses took place in 2008 when LBC was using the SUMMA Evaluations. Since then, LBC has adopted the IDEA Survey and a new look at the results of these over the past four years needs to be conducted.

While still too new to assess fully, the new vertical academic structure appears to be functioning in a more efficient manner. However, there is still the need to establish closer cooperation between the iLEAD department and the appropriate Department Chairs, especially when it comes to the issue of faculty hiring.

Minutes from the meetings of the Academic Council and the Educational Support Services Council provide further evidence that instructional, research, and service programs are devised, developed, monitored, and supported by qualified professionals.
