MSCHE Standard 12: General Education

The institution’s curricula are designed so that students acquire and demonstrate college-level proficiency in general education and essential skills, including at least oral and written communication, scientific and quantitative reasoning, critical analysis and reasoning, and technological competency.

Analysis of Evidences

While college-level proficiency in general education and essential skills are acquired in all curricular and even some non-curricular venues, LBC’s Arts & Sciences Department is responsible for documenting the attainment of these skills. An analysis of the evidences indicates that LBC students generally demonstrate proficiency in general education and essential skills at or slightly above the mean when compared to comparable populations. Those areas which need some addressing include scientific and quantitative reasoning and a couple of the ACRL information literacy standards.
