MSCHE Standard 5: Administration

The institution’s administrative structure and services facilitate learning and research/ scholarship, foster quality improvement, and support the institution’s organization and governance.

Analysis of Evidences

LBC’s administrative structure, as seen in the Organizational Chart, consists of the President and his five-member Cabinet. The President is the conduit by which the Corporation of the College and the Board of Trustees govern the College. While the President is the ultimately responsible for the day-to-day operation of the College, each of his Cabinet member oversees specific areas of the College. Each Cabinet member has direct supervision over associate vice presidents and/or department heads and chairs.

In his role as Dean of the Faculty, the Vice President for Academic Affairs works through the Academic Council to facilitate the learning process and to promote research and scholarship. Each Department Chair reviews Faculty portfolios which evidence accomplishments in instructional improvement, scholarship, spiritual formation, institutional service, and student interaction. A growth plan is developed each year and reviewed.

While still too new to assess fully, the new vertical academic structure appears to be functioning in a more efficient manner. However, there is still the need to establish closer cooperation between the iLEAD department and the appropriate Department Chairs, especially when it comes to the issue of faculty hiring.

Quality improvement of the Academic Programs as well as the Student Support Units is evidenced in individual departmental Assessment Plans. All five Cabinet members hold their department heads or chairs accountable for institutional renewal through regular meetings as well as through a systematic review of assessment plans and formal evaluations.
